Nubian Notion opens.

It operates initially out of the barbershop of Malik Abdal-Khallaq in Nubian Square (then Dudley Square). For many years the only store in Boston to sell African- and African-American products and crafts, it becomes a convenience store and record store, with branches on Newbury Street and in Cambridge. The company closes in 2016.
